DYN - O - MITE

So, I want to do things differently.  I get tired a lot.  Who doesn’t right? I’m sure you may be tired even right now! Well, my new goal is to make sure I’m tiring my self out over the right stuff.  Sometimes I’ll see a pile of ants running around on the ground.  They’ll go here, to there, then back.  Sometimes they all go in the same line.  Occasionally, they’ll all work together and take a piece of brownie I dropped on the ground from point A to Point B over the course of 10 minutes. Yes, I do sometimes watch ants for 10 mintues…

Part of me, says, Wow, that’s pointless.  You crazy, Ants! You tire yourself out over nothing!  Then, I wonder what God things when he watches the people created in His image go through their day.  Is he looking at us, like I look at the ants?  Am I spending countless time and energy toward a project that is so unimportant to God.  From God’s perspective, do we look like a bunch of crazies running at break neck speeds, making drastic turns, carrying heavy loads, and wearing ourselves out for nothing?

So, my prayer and my heart wants to depend on God to move through me and empower me.  The way I know God to do this is through his Holy Spirit.  I’ve been studying the Book of Acts for several weeks and will continue to do so for at least 3 or 4 more months. (It’s a big book!)  Already, I’m seeing I need to get to know the main character of Acts better: The Holy Spirit.  He does so much in, through, around, and in the midst of the life of the early church.  I believe He made sure the church wasn’t running around pointlessly.  Plus, Jesus said in Acts 1:8 that we will have POWER when the Holy Spirit fills us.  That word for power is related (in the Greek) to the word we use for dynamite.  Power, sounds like something I need to make sure I have all I need to get through my days.

What if we all deeply depended on the Holy Spirit to empower us to have the energy we need for the day and also to help us make the schedule for the day?  I think we could prevent ourselves from running around like ants, and from tiring ourselves out.

My plan is to set aside time in the morning to pause and meet with God before I start my day.  To do this, I’m going to make sure I’m sleeping a full 8 hours, no more/no less, and then starting out my day creatively meeting with God through the work of the Holy Spirit. Sounds tough.  I’ll need some POWER, just to start this journey!
